US retirement and tax tools for 2027

Every fall, the numbers that shape next year’s retirement checks and tax bills are announced within a few weeks of each other. The Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) is set from the change in the consumer price index for urban wage earners (CPI-W) over the third quarter and is usually announced in October. Medicare announces the coming year’s Part B premium in the fall, and because the premium is taken out of most Social Security checks, the COLA and the premium together decide what actually arrives in January.
The IRS publishes next year’s 401(k) contribution limits, its inflation-adjusted tax brackets and the standard deduction in October or November. Until each announcement, the tools here use a named forecast and say so with a dashed Projected label. On announcement day the tool switches to the official figure, the label turns solid and the update date changes.
Start with the COLA calculator if you receive Social Security, the 401(k) calculator if you want to max out next year’s contributions from each paycheck, and the tax brackets calculator to compare your federal tax under this year’s and next year’s brackets. None of them asks for your name or Social Security number, and the math runs in your browser.
