Who makes these
plusbeauxjours makes free calculators, checkers and checklists for people in the United States and Korea. The name is French for “better days”. Every tool is planned, written, designed and built here, then tested on phones, with a keyboard and with a screen reader before it goes live.
Made by Dan Lee.
Why one question per tool
The answers people need are usually public, but they are spread across long agency pages, PDFs and news stories. A plusbeauxjours tool takes the one thing you came for, such as your own January check, the amount to set per paycheck or whether a bottle is recalled, and puts that answer first. Below it you’ll find how it was worked out and where each number came from.
Right now there are 8 tools, in English for the US and in Korean for Korea. You can see them all on the list of free tools.
How we check numbers
- Primary sources first. Figures come from the agency or law that sets them wherever possible: for example the SSA, IRS, CMS, NOAA and FDA in the US, and 금융감독원, 행정안전부 and 한국교육과정평가원 in Korea. When a number isn’t published yet and we use a forecast, we name who made it.
- Every source is dated. Each tool lists its sources with links and the date we checked them, and shows when the tool itself was last updated.
- Projected and official look different. Projected has a dashed border: it’s an estimate and can change. Official has a solid border: it comes from the published announcement. The label sits next to the number, not only in a banner.
- We update on announcement day. When an agency publishes the official figure, the tool switches from projected to official and the update date changes. Fast-moving topics are refreshed on a schedule shown on the tool.
- The math is tested. Each calculation is checked by automated tests, including worked examples published by the agencies themselves where they exist.
- Mistakes get fixed. If a number looks wrong, email plusbeauxjours@gmail.com with the tool and a link to your source. We check it against the primary source and correct the tool.
Independence
plusbeauxjours is not a government website. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or paid by any government agency, bank or company whose information appears in the tools. That’s also why you won’t see seals, flags or agency logos here.
The tools give general information, not financial, tax, legal or medical advice. For a decision that matters, confirm with the agency involved or a licensed professional.
Your data
Calculations run in your browser. The tools don’t ask for your name, Social Security number or resident registration number, and they don’t require an account. The full details are in the privacy policy and the terms of use.
How the site is paid for
The tools are free and will stay free. The site may show advertising in the future. If it does, ads will be kept visibly separate from results, and the privacy policy will explain it first.
